BNP wins decisive election in Bangladesh: key priorities

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won a two-thirds majority in the general election in Bangladesh. The result is expected to restore political stability after months of turmoil following the overthrow of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The party, led by Tariq Rahman, the son of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman, returns to power two decades later. Rahman is expected to be sworn in as prime minister.

The following are the key priorities of the BNP set out in its manifesto, formulated under the slogan: «Bangladesh is above all else». . . .

Public administration and constitutional reform

BNP pledged to implement «The July Charter» — Reform plan aimed at restructuring state institutions. The creation of new constitutional bodies and the introduction of a bicameral parliament, along with broader political reforms agreed by major parties, are central to this plan.

Trade and Industry Revival

The party plans to revive closed enterprises and diversify exports to reduce dependence on a narrow production base. It also promises to ensure that legitimate foreign companies can repatriate profits within 30 days. — A measure aimed at increasing investor confidence.

Employment and labour force development

The cornerstone of the BNP programme is job creation, including nearly one million new positions in the information and communication technology sector. The party aims to bring wages in line with inflation through adjustments tied to the price index, which will be reviewed every two years. It also proposes to enhance the technical and language training of young people, while providing for the recruitment of merit-based public service.

Economic modernization

BNP intends to introduce international payment systems, create regional e-commerce centers and promote the initiative «Made in Bangladesh» to strengthen domestic production. She also plans to launch the program. «Family card»To help low-income families purchase essential goods on a monthly basis.

Improving health

The manifesto calls for a gradual increase in public health spending to 5% of GDP. The plans include recruiting 100,000 health workers and expanding preventive care programs to improve health outcomes across the country.

Social development and education

The party offers a nationwide half-day program for students and a new educational policy focused on skills and values. It also intends to improve sports infrastructure and create training-based social support programs for religious leaders of all faiths at places of worship.
